One of the key themes we’re seeing with smart homes is compatibility. Matter technology aims to bridge the gap between the various smart home platforms. Outside of Matter, HOOBS is one of my favorite products to extend the usefulness of HomeKit. It’s built on top of Homebridge as a commercial product that’s well supported. In early 2023, HOOBS Pro looks like a heavy hitter for building the best smart home system.

The Mac’s acceptance at work in the last few years is something many of us “old timers” are still amazed by. As remote and hybrid work has become a permanent part of our working society, it’s helpful to look back at what led Apple to its place at the top of the IT endpoint food chain.
With the holiday shopping season in full swing, I’m working on my Christmas gift guide. As someone with a passion for IT, my list is always fairly unique! I’ve pulled together some of my favorite items for this year’s list. I hope you enjoy it!
I mentioned a few months ago that I planned to use the Google Nest Cam with Floodlight at my new house because it offered 24/7 recording. For my outdoor cameras, it’s something I really wanted going forward. We’ve been in the house a few weeks, so I wanted to report what I’ve learned about the devices, how it compares to HomeKit cameras, and how it works with Starling Home Hub for bridging it to HomeKit.

In the past, enterprises had a single on-premises IT infrastructure. The businesses were responsible for managing and maintaining their own networks including desktop PCs. These skill sets were often one together – managing a Microsoft computing environment. Today, organizations are tasked with managing SaaS apps, mobile devices, desktops/laptops, internal networks, and more. Many organizations cannot hire enough people to help them manage the onslaught of devices they have today, and that’s why they’re turning to Managed Mobility Service Providers to help them ensure security and productivity.

In a simple design that includes a touch sensor and HomeKit support, it strikes the perfect balance between form and function; it won’t break the bank, either! If you stop reading here, you need to know two things about it:
It supports HomeKit
It includes a built-in wireless charger
It’s right around $50 depending on if its on sale or not
If that looks like something you want, you’ll love this lamp.

Much of Apple’s market share growth in the enterprise can be attributed to the fantastic hardware and software products it releases annually. However, another major reason why Apple has been able to gain traction in the enterprise is because of its commitment to empowering IT professionals to be successful in managing their fleets. If the IT team cannot effectively secure, deploy, or manage their fleet, then it doesn’t matter how good the devices are or if end users love them. The IT department’s mandate requires devices to fit into their ecosystem. The companies behind apps that want to be used in the enterprise know they’ll have an easier time reaching the large install base at organizations using Apple products if they can fit right into the existing management ecosystem. Recently, 1Password added MDM support to 1Password 8 on the Mac, and I want to look at why it’s a critical upgrade.
The Christmas shopping season has officially begun, and since it’s time for HomeKit Weekly, I thought I’d take the time to provide an update on my top HomeKit devices that would be the perfect gift under the Christmas tree for a smart home enthusiast. With the rollout of Matter and Thread, it’s never been a better time to start building your perfect smart home on the foundation of HomeKit!

QCODE has announced the release date of their all-new fantasy epic podcast series Birds of Empire. I received an early release of episode one, and it’s an amazing audio experience that’s worth sitting in a comfy chair, pouring a cup of coffee, closing your eyes, and letting your imagination transfer your mind to another world. It’s unlike any audiobook or podcast you’ve experienced thus far.
Aqara, one of my favorite HomeKit vendors, has debuted another product just after the release of its Smart Feeder for Pets. Today, it’s upgrading the popular Aqara Cube Controller with HomeKit and Alexa support. The Aqara Cube T1 Pro’s functionality is similar to the original design, except it recognizes additional actions: push, shake, rotate, and tap.
One of the balances I am trying to strive for in 2023 is using technology more efficiently. I like to know what’s happening around the world in news, sports, and finance, but I want to look at an iPhone less. I want technology that works passively, and that’s one reason why I am excited to have Tidbyt on my desk for the new year.

Let’s take a look at the brand new Aqara Smart Pet Feeder.
