The Snow Leopard release for iOS

Dubbed the Snow Leopard release, iOS 12 focuses on performance and squashing bugs among other features. The current public version is iOS 12.2

What’s new?

Apple has reportedly shelved may major features that was originally slated for this release, such as a redesigned Home screen for the iPhone X, and major updates to Mail. Instead, the update will feature augmented reality improvements, health features and improved parental controls.

The focus on stability instead of packing tons of new features is mainly due to the bugginess and endless issues Apple has been trying to deal with on its platforms as of late. Despite this, Apple is reportedly still on schedule to unify iOS and macOS apps.

The release is similar to OS X’s Snow Leopard on the Mac, as the main focus of that release was also stability and performance enhancements. To this day, many customers still consider Snow Leopard as Apple’s best operating system for having rock solid performance without much bugs.

How to use keyboard trackpad mode on every iPhone and iPad with iOS 12

One of the best parts of 3D Touch is the ability to turn the iPhone keyboard into a trackpad that you can use to move the blinking blue text input cursor. With iOS 12, Apple has brought this feature to all iPhone and iPad models with a new gesture, removing the 3D Touch requirement.

To activate keyboard trackpad mode without 3D Touch on iOS 12, simply long-press on the space bar with one finger. After a short delay, the keys will fade away to indicate that you have entered trackpad mode.

1Password now works with Password Autofill on iOS 12

One of the great new enhancements of iOS 12 is Password Autofill. This brings login credentials like usernames, emails, and passwords from password vaults to iOS apps and websites right on the iOS keyboard — and it’s not just limited to Apple’s iCloud Keychain. 1Password 7.2 for iOS 12 brings full support for Password Autofill, promoting the password manager to a first-class citizen on iPhone and iPad.

iOS 12 GM coming later today, here are the release notes [Update: It’s out]

UPDATE: iOS 12 GM is now available for developers and public beta testers.

Apple is holding their special event at the Steve Jobs Theater today. Besides announcing a new Apple Watch and new iPhones, beta testers of iOS 12 are going to be getting the golden master build later today. This build is probably the final build of iOS 12 that’s going to ship to customers probably right before the new iPhones start shipping, unless there’s some serious issue with it.
