Check out our top iPhone X stories:

Apple has announced its long awaited bezel-less, premium 10th anniversary smartphone, iPhone X at its September event. Priced at $999 for the 64GB model and $1,149 for 256GB, iPhone X is Apple’s most expensive iPhone yet.

The iPhone X features glass on the front and back with a stainless steel body that seamlessly meet at the device’s curved edges. Other flagship features include the devices new 3D sensors that bring Face ID as a replacement to Touch ID and wireless charging support.

The iPhone X along with the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus feature the A11 Bionic processor. The all new chip has four efficiency cores that are up to 70% faster than A10 Fusion and two performance cores that are up to 25% faster. The new models also have an Apple designed GPU that offers up to 30% better performance than the A10 chip.

iPhone X will be available for preorder on October 27 and will launch on November 3.

Foxconn says it ‘immediately’ ended illegal overtime by students on iPhone X production line

Foxconn said it took ‘immediate action’ to end the illegal hours being worked by high school students on the iPhone X production line.

The statement follows confirmation by Apple that students aged 17-19 were allowed to work more than 40 hours per week despite this being in breach of both the law and the company’s own policies …

iPhone X: Create useful shortcuts with a virtual Home button for a super efficient UI

You’ve likely quickly adapted to the new Home button-less iPhone X and its gesture based user interface. But while there are a lot of improvements, some aspects have become less user-friendly, like pulling up Control Center, Notification Center, and Apple Pay. Luckily, you can use a (mostly invisible) virtual Home button to create shortcuts to make a custom, efficient UI.

Apple admits student interns worked illegal hours on iPhone X production line

Apple has confirmed a Financial Times report that high school students interning at Foxconn exceeded their legal hours while working on the iPhone X production line. The company has, however, denied claims that the students were forced to carry out the work as a condition of graduation from school.

The report relates to 3,000 high school students who take part in a three-month long work experience program …

iPhone X Diary: Putting the camera to the test, and being even more impressed

I took a week off last week to get unpacked and settled into our new home. This was a time-consuming process, so I didn’t get much time to get out and about, but with a fabulous view from our new apartment, that didn’t stop me putting the iPhone X camera through its paces. You’ll just have to excuse the fact that the photos are rather lacking in variety!

For each of the photos, I’m showing the original, straight-from-camera version as well as the edited version. And to make it true to the real-life behavior of most people, I’ve used only the stock Camera and Photos apps for both photography and edits.

To be honest, any recent iPhone is a fantastic camera in bright sunlight, so I’m concentrating here on the real test of a camera: low-light performance …

iPhone X now ships in 2-3 weeks from Apple Online Store

The availability of iPhone X continues to improve. The Apple Online Store is now reporting 2-3 week delivery estimates for new iPhone X orders, across both Space Gray and Silver colors on all carriers. Reports indicated that iPhone X supply would be improving throughout November, after the initial production holdups, and that is certainly corroborated here.

It’s also true that the rush of early adopter demand for the phone has likely waned at this point, although the holiday shopping season is always a busy period for iPhones sales.

Should you buy AppleCare+ for your iPhone X? It depends

Deciding whether or not to buy AppleCare+ with Apple products can be a tough decision, and the $999-$1149 price of the iPhone X doesn’t make the decision any easier. The cost of AppleCare+ increased for pricier iPhones, but so did the repair costs for out-of-warranty damage.

No one wants to get stuck with a huge out-of-pocket fee to repair a busted iPhone X, although it’s worth considering the math before buying or passing on AppleCare+ for iPhone X.

How Animoji uses iPhone X’s TrueDepth Camera

Apple’s new Animoji feature has proven to be a viral and fun part of the iPhone X, but the $999 starting price is an understandable roadblock for a lot of potential customers. Early testing shows 7.5W ‘fast’ wireless charging has small effect on Qi charging speed

The iOS 11.2 betas include support for faster 7.5 watt wireless charging; the current public releases of iOS 11 limit iPhone 8 and iPhone X to 5W Qi wireless charging only. However, what is the practical impact of this change? Early testing shows that the improvements in charging speed using a 7.5 W charger is very slight.

Mother shows how her iPhone X can be unlocked by her 10 year-old son with Face ID

Face ID is undeniably more secure than Touch ID in a random sampling of population. Apple says the chance of a person unlocking your phone with Face ID is 1 in a million.

However, the probability of an incorrect match can be considerably higher fotr siblings, twins and children under the age of 13. A new video from a mother highlights exactly these limitations; she finds her 10-year old son can reliably unlock her phone using his face. Video after the jump …

iOS 11.2 enables 7.5W wireless charging for iPhone 8 and iPhone X

Update: We have tested wireless charging speeds running the latest iOS 11.2 beta and have been unable to notice a meaningful difference in how quickly the iPhone 8 charged on a 7.5 watt Qi charger compared to a  5w Qi charger.

Right now, all wireless charging on the 2017 iPhones runs at a maximum of 5 watts. The update will unlock 7.5 watt Qi charging for the Belkin BOOST UP Wireless Charging Pad and Mophie Wireless Charging Base.

What’s new in iOS 11.2 beta 3? Hands-on with changes and features [Video]

Earlier today Apple released iOS 11.2 beta 3 to developers. Opinion: Breadcrumb back button navigation on iPhone X is strangely ‘undesigned’

With the iPhone X, Apple had to redesign the top of the iOS user interface significantly to accommodate the notch in the display.

Rather than just dividing the status bar in two, Apple designed and engineered a significant overhaul to status items. New icons, new animations, new transitions … with one strange exception that was seemingly left unchanged.

Cybersecurity experts ‘beat’ Face ID with carefully constructed 3D mask

A cybersecurity firm have apparently successfully tricked Face ID into unlocking with a specially made mask, imitating a real person’s face. The security researchers say they only unlocked the iPhone X with a real person’s face, so the iPhone could not learn false data from the mask.

How much of a security flaw this really represents is up for debate of course. Making the mask only cost $150 in materials, but required access to a detailed scan of the person’s facial features and many hours of work by artists …
