tvOS 13 beta 2 brings Picture-in-Picture video multitasking to Apple TV

Although strangely not mentioned in Apple’s WWDC keynote, tvOS 13 beta 2 has a nice surprise: support for Picture-in-Picture video playback.

You can now watch shows from the Apple TV app whilst multitasking around the rest of the operating system. Just like the iPad, Apple TV users can leave the video playing in a thumbnail window whilst they navigate the rest of the operating system.

[Update: A tweet from Epic Games Senior PR representative today says that they aren’t planning on bringing Fortnite to Apple TV. “References to tvOS in the Fortnite files are the result of general Unreal Engine support for the Apple TV platform.” ]

HQ Trivia brings live trivia game show with cash prizes to the Apple TV

I don’t know if people still play HQ Trivia (or if anyone has struck gold playing), but there’s a clever new way to compete if so: HQ Trivia for Apple TV. The live trivia game show made its debut on iPhone and iPad around this time last year, but there’s certainly less buzz around the app now. HQ Trivia hopes a new presence in the living room will change that, and frankly it’s not a bad idea.
