Apple Park

Apple Park is Apple's new, 175-acre corporate campus. Its 2.8 million-square-foot main building, or "spaceship," is considered to be one of the most energy-efficient buildings on earth. The campus and nearby visitor center opened in 2017, and will house over 12,000 employees.

First announced by Steve Jobs in 2006, Apple kicked off construction on its new 175-acre “Campus 2” in late 2013 and was expected to start moving in more than 12,000 of its employees in April 2017. The campus, located approximately one mile east of its current headquarters in Cupertino, California is also often referred to as the Apple “Spaceship” due to the appearance of the site’s main circular building.

CEO Tim Cook explained why Apple Park’s theater was named after the late Steve Jobs:

To honor his memory and his enduring influence on Apple and the world, the theater at Apple Park will be named the Steve Jobs Theater. Opening later this year, the entrance to the 1,000-seat auditorium is a 20-foot-tall glass cylinder, 165 feet in diameter, supporting a metallic carbon-fiber roof. The Steve Jobs Theater is situated atop a hill — one of the highest points within Apple Park — overlooking meadows and the main building.

Apple Park also houses a visitor center with an exclusive corporate store and mini Caffè Macs. The visitor center opened to public in November 2017.

Eddy Cue auctioning Apple Park lunch meet up for NABC Foundation donation

A stroll through Apple Park reveals green landscape progressing [Gallery]

Apple Park is starting to look a lot more like a park as Apple makes rapid progress on the massive landscaping job and continues construction at the site. The images above and below give a good ground level look at the thousands of trees being planted around the main circular building on the 175-acre campus. These photos sent in by a 9to5Mac reader show how the site looked as of late last week.

While Apple announced back in February that Apple Park would be ready for employees to begin moving in by April, the site still appears to be more in construction mode and it’s unclear what Apple staff if any is actually already working at the new campus. The company is also expected to host future events at the 1000-seat Steve Jobs Theatre located at Apple Park, but chatter from construction workers is that finishing touches could go beyond the end of the year and the new iPhone unveiling expected to be Apple’s next event in September.

Latest Apple Park drone tour provides our first peek inside the Steve Jobs Theater [Video]

The Apple Park images keep coming. Soon after the first press images, lovely sunset footage and 3D buildings in Apple Maps, the latest 4K drone footage gives us our first glimpse inside the Steve Jobs Theater.

Drone pilot Matthew Roberts noticed that some of the window coverings on the auditorium had been removed, so took us down low for a sneak peek …

Apple Maps 3D images of Apple Park show buildings, walkways & fountain

Apple Maps now shows 3D images of the Apple Park campus, with detailed representations of buildings, walkways and other landscape features. The detail extends as far as the sun-shade slats and solar panels on the main building.

The app added 3D satellite imagery back in March, though this was rather out of date. At that time, the map view was still rather sparse, something Apple has now fixed, though another issue remains unresolved …

Photos posted from exclusive tour inside Apple Park, with video coming soon [Gallery]

Wired has been given an exclusive look inside the spaceship ring of the Apple Campus, revealing the ‘pod’ approach that was the brainchild of Steve Jobs.

As with any Apple product, its shape would be determined by its function. This would be a workplace where people were open to each other and open to nature, and the key to that would be modular sections, known as pods, for work or collaboration. Jobs’ idea was to repeat those pods over and over: pod for office work, pod for teamwork, pod for socializing, like a piano roll playing a Philip Glass composition. They would be distributed democratically. Not even the CEO would get a suite or a similar incongruity. And while the company has long been notorious for internal secrecy, compartmentalizing its projects on a need-to-know basis, Jobs seemed to be proposing a more porous structure where ideas would be more freely shared across common spaces. Not totally open, of course—Ive’s design studio, for instance, would be shrouded by translucent glass—but more open than Infinite Loop.

The site has posted a small selection of teaser photos (below), and promises that video is coming soon …

Latest drone video shows how Apple Park construction has progressed over the last year

While some have slighted Apple for not moving employees into its new Apple Park headquarters at a faster pace, it’s clear that the progress made throughout the last year has been incredible. This evening, drone aficionado Matthew Roberts has released his latest Apple Park video, but instead of the typical flyover style, this video shows how the campus has transformed over the last year…

Latest drone footage of Apple Park makes iPad event there look unlikely [Video]

Site default logo image

The latest drone footage of the Apple Park construction progress is in, and it makes an iPad event in the Steve Jobs Theater seem unlikely. We can only now be a matter of weeks away from the event, and there appears to be just too much mess – and too many potential hazards – for Apple to risk having 1,000 people wandering through the site.

First drone footage since naming of Apple Park shows completed parking garage & more [Video]

Site default logo image

It’s a few days since the official naming of Apple’s new campus as Apple Park, and we’re today seeing the first drone footage following the announcement.

The solar panel installation on the garage roofing is now 100% complete, and looks stunning. It seems likely the garage will be home to more electric cars than you’d find at other companies.

The solar panels on the main building are still being added as other work continues to be ready for the first employees to move in in April …

Comment: Apple struck exactly the right note with its naming of Apple Park, as we learn more [Poll]

Site default logo image

While we’ve all been able to follow the construction progress of Apple Park thanks to drone footage, the company kept us waiting a long time before finally revealing two things: what the campus would be called, and when employees would move in.

The name attracted quite a bit of attention, with some feeling that it was perhaps a little tame to describe such a dramatic building – but I think Eli Schiff hit the nail on the head.

Xerox Parc was where the Macintosh story really began, and I think Apple did indeed intend to reference that when it chose the name for its new campus …

Apple spaceship campus interior details: polished concrete ceilings, iPhone-like elevator buttons, flat doorways

Site default logo image

We have been watching the exterior of the Apple spaceship campus develop over the last few years via drone videos but details about the interior design are much more scarce. In a lengthy article, Reuters reports that Apple Campus 2 is almost finished with a move-in date set for the spring.

The article gives some new insight into the meticulous design of the building, such as Apple’s insistence that no vents or pipes can be reflected in the glass. It also sounds like much of the fixtures and fittings mirror iPhone hardware design: “one former manager even likened the toilet’s sleek design to the device” …
