Bloomberg has published its roundup of what to expect at WWDC next week, and included are notable details about what not to expect from Apple on Monday. Specifically, new Macs and iPad Pros aren’t expected to debut like last year.
Apple’s annual World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) will be held next week (June 4–8) in San Jose. WWDC is the biggest event of the year for Apple, where they announce major new OS releases for all platforms. In preparation for the event, Apple has just released a new update for its official iOS app.
Although Apple didn’t offer a video stream of its March education event, it comes as no surprise that its WWDC stage will be streamed live. Apple confirmed this today with a new banner on the Apple.com homepage, inviting customers to join in on the announcements on June 4.
Apple has confirmed with press that its next media event — the opening keynote of WWDC — will take place on June 4th at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET. The keynote will be held in San Jose, California, at the McEnery Convention Center where Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference is held.
Over the last few days, a story has been making the rounds claiming that Siri itself is teasing a major overhaul coming at WWDC next month, as well as a new HomePod. Essentially, if you say to Siri, “Tell me about WWDC,” it teases that it’ll be getting “a lot smarter” and getting a new “home.”

Last week Recode reported that Amazon and Apple were actively discussing plans to bring Prime Video to Apple TV later this year, and now Buzzfeed is reporting that yes, really, it’s happening and the deal is now official. Amazon Prime Video for Apple TV is expected to be introduced on stage at WWDC next month and launch later this summer, according to the report.
Amazon’s Echo with a screen is real and it’s shipping at the end of next month. Echo Show is a $230 7-inch tablet with video playback and calling that has to stay plugged in to work.
What makes that better than an iPad or any other tablet? Amazon hopes the answer is its Alexa voice assistant. While I’m curious about a voice-activated, always-present voice assistant that anyone can access in the home, the original Amazon Echo has more appeal to me. If Siri Speaker is something we see next month at WWDC (before Echo Show ships!), I’m hoping it’s more Amazon Echo and less Echo Show…

The latest update to Apple’s WWDC app includes new features for iOS 10, tvOS 10, and watchOS 3. Apple’s developer conference app now works with Dark Mode on the Apple TV when running tvOS 10. The change should reflect whichever mode the Home screen is using which you can set with Siri or in the Settings app.
The WWDC app also supports more 3D Touch interactions for iPhone 6s and later, plus you can now use filters to find locally stored videos and videos you haven’t viewed yet.
Apple today announced that transcripts are now available to accompany its WWDC 2016 session videos. These transcripts allow developers to read the full content of session videos.

If you weren’t lucky enough to attend this year’s WWDC, there were live-streams of all the session videos, and you can still watch these online. But for those who find written transcripts a more efficient way to catch up, or want to be able to search for specific terms, the unofficial WWDC Mac app now provides automatic transcripts of each session.
These products from August, Canary, Withings, Kuna, D-Link, Ring & others will be next to gain support for Apple’s HomeKit in the coming months.
