Since its introduction, Apple has released at least one new phone every single year. In recent years, that has typically been in the fall. iPhones are sold through multiple retail channels including Apple Stores, cellular stores, Best Buy, and other major electronic retailers. iPhones can be bought with a single up front payment, financed through the iPhone Upgrade Program, or financed through a cellular carrier.

Apple’s smartphone has become much more than just a phone since its debut. The iPhone can act as your primary camera, music player, GPS device, email client, mobile banking system, messaging device, movie player, and much more.

Concerns about iPhone 8 demand ahead of X launch holding back stock market

A report today about U.S. stock indexes dropping cites concerns about iPhone demand as one of the major causes.

With reviews now out ahead of tomorrow’s launch of the iPhone 8 (along with Apple Watch Series 3 and Apple TV 4K) and pre-order demand weaker than normal in the shadow of the upcoming iPhone X, Reuters reports that iPhone demand is one of two factors dragging down the stock market.

Apple has officially announced (at least) two new iPhones: iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Both the front and back are now glass, and the band is still aluminum. Silver, space gray, and a “beautiful new gold finish” are available color options. RIP matte black, jet black, and rose gold.

Both iPhones have a new Retina HD display and improved water resistance. Both new iPhones feature True Tone display like the iPad Pro lineup for white image balancing.

Analysts predicting 227.5M iPhone sales this year en-route to ‘the trillion-dollar iPhone’

Market intelligence company TrendForce is predicting that Apple will sell around 227.5M iPhones this year, which would be 5.6% up on last year. This would represent growth above the overall smartphone market, which it expects to increase its sales by 4.8%.

[UPDATE: Discover calls fake news on this one (even though the products were real) with this statement:

“On Monday, September 11th, a false rumor was reported about Discover posting information on its website about Apple’s new products. The rumor has no merit and an accompanying mock image was never posted on any Discover websites.”]

Discover this evening briefly updated its “Deals” website to reflect the release of the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X Edition, Apple Watch Series 3, iPod Touch (7th Generation), and Apple TV (2017). While it’s completely possible that Discover doesn’t have any inside information here, this move is the latest in a long list of corroboration about what Apple has in store for tomorrow…

It’s almost time for the iPhone 8 (and/or iPhone Edition) which means it’s been nearly one year since the jet black iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus shipped. When Apple introduced the glossy black finish, it warned customers that jet black is prone to ‘fine micro-abrasions’ and recommended using a case. I prefer using my iPhone caseless (and jet black is satisfyingly grippy) so I put Apple’s challenge to the test at the risk of losing any resale value.

NYPD forced to scrap 36,000 Windows phones, will be replacing them with iPhones [U]

Update: The NYPD has issued a statement in which it says the phones were provided as part of a contract that allowed it to change devices after two years, and that it will begin the switch to iPhone in the fall. It claims that the phones were provided ‘at no cost’ but does not explain how they were paid for. 

The New York Police Department is being forced to scrap 36,000 Windows Phones bought just two years ago as part of a $160M mobility project. The move has been forced by Microsoft’s decision to cease support for the platform as of last month.

The NYPD now plans to replace the phones with iPhones by the end of the year, according to a report …
