The term came became part of our vocabulary when Steve Jobs announced The App Store as part of the iPhone 2.0 software update in 2008.

Over the years, the term has become as common as kleenex for describing applications on all of our devices. Apple’s platforms have apps for just about anything from finance, banking, sports, social media, podcasting, music, and more. We have a guide for helping you discover the best ones as well. Apps are now on everything from our TV, to our smartphones, on our laptops, and all the way down to our wrists.

Despite already having the gold standard (in my opinion) of weather data, it now brings one of the best-looking apps to the table as well.

Scout FM is creating a new type of app for podcasts with a different approach. It’s a podcast radio service that streams a tailored selection of the podcasts and radio shows. When you first launch the app, it shows the top stations. It includes Brain Food, Daily News, True Crime, Progressive/Conservative Talk Radio, and Business Builder. They have countless other stations as well.

Amazon’s iOS app now uses ARKit for virtual shopping ahead of Black Friday

Along with launching today’s Countdown to Black Friday 2017, Amazon updated its iOS app to include a new feature for the holiday shopping season called ‘AR View’. Leaning heavily on Apple’s own ARKit, this new feature allows customers to virtually place products in their home “allowing them to visualize the aesthetic” prior to purchasing. (Also Amazon is currently offering a $50 iTunes gift card for $42.50. That’s 15% off.)
