Apple Pay’s rollout in Australia has been hindered since the start as local banks have pleaded to have access to the NFC hardware in the iPhone so existing mobile payment services can be used alongside Apple Pay.

Now, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has rejected a proposal from a handful of big Australian banks that would have allowed them to negotiate in a group with Apple, according to the Australian site ABC News

Spigen’s new ultimate iPhone car mount w/ telescopic arm is $15 for Cyber Monday

Site default logo image

spigen-car-mount-04

Spigen’s new ultimate Kuel AP12T Car Mount features a super low-profile design with a telescopic arm and a rotating phone mount to let you adjust your device in just about any direction. You can adjust the length of the arm to extend out up to 9.2 inches from the base, or keep it more compact at 5 inches when retracted, and you can tilt and rotate the phone itself to get an ideal viewing angle for your specific car’s dash. You can see it in action in the video below.

The phone will also rotate to work into both landscape and portrait orientations, and it folds down into itself to have the lowest-profile possible and reduce any obstruction to your view of the road while driving. A self adjusting smartphone holder means the mount will automatically open and lock to the width of your phone for easy one-handed docking. It will attach to both a windshield or dash (except for leather dashboards).

It just launched, but you can get 40% off today only for Cyber Monday making it just $15 with code AP12T40P.

How to check if your iPhone 6s is eligible for Apple’s battery replacement program

Site default logo image

iphone-serial-number

Update, Dec 1, 2016: Following our post below showing you how to check if your iPhone 6s is eligible for Apple’s battery replacement program, the company has now added its own tool via the program’s webpage.

Update #2, Dec 2, 2016: A full statement from Apple after the original story below.

When Apple announced an iPhone 6s battery replacement program last week, identifying select models that might be eligible for a free repair due to unexpected shutdowns, it only specified manufacturing dates for potentially affected devices. It recommended customers take a trip to an Apple store or authorized reseller if they are experiencing issues to check if they are eligible for a repair. But there’s a quick and easy way to check if your device is eligible at home, using the same process that Apple repair staff will be using in stores…

Apple prototyping hi-res curved-screen model as possible top-tier iPhone 8 – WSJ

Site default logo image

A report in the WSJ backs an earlier suggestion that Apple may be planning a hi-res curved-screen iPhone next year, possibly as a new top tier handset known as an iPhone Pro. The company is said to have gotten as far as prototyping the new device.

We’ve been hearing rumors for some time now of a third iPhone tier next year. The majority of these reports suggest that the top-tier model will be distinguished by an OLED screen while the two other models remain for now on IPS LCD – but we have heard one previous credible report of a curved-screen model …

Report: New micro-bezel 10.9-inch iPad to have same footprint as current 9.7-inchers, but thicker

Site default logo image

A report from often-reliable Japanese site Makotakara says that a new 10.9-inch iPad rumored for release early next year will have the same footprint as the current 9.7-inch iPad Pro, despite the larger screen size.

Citing an ‘informed’ supply-chain source in Taiwan, the site says that the larger screen size will be offset by smaller bezels. The top bezel containing the FaceTime camera is said to remain, while the Home button will be removed and side bezels reduced …
