A new Apple Pencil is coming tomorrow – here’s what the rumors say

Apple Pencil

Apple will hold a special event on May 7. Although the company doesn’t usually discuss the topics of the event, the invitation artwork makes it clear that it will be all about iPad – as we can see an Apple Pencil in it. After Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted at a new Pencil coming tomorrow, Apple’s website also leaked the name “Apple Pencil Pro,” adding more fuel to the fire.

MagSafe Monday: Spigen Valentinus delivers an Apple-like wallet experience at nearly half the cost

Spigen Valentinus

Apple’s MagSafe wallet is generally the default option for most people looking for a way to store an identification card, credit card, and more. While it’s Find My integration is great, that does mean its double the cost of a lot of the MagSafe wallets from other vendors. The Spigen Valentinus is a perfect example of a solid alternative to Apple’s wallet. At half the cost, it can hold three cards and works great on the back of your iPhone.

The time may be right for a Magic Keyboard Pro and Apple Pencil Pro

iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard Pro and Apple Pencil Pro

Tomorrow at the ‘Let loose’ event, Apple is expected to debut next-generation iPad Pro and iPad Air models alongside some brand new iPad accessories.

The iPad Pro seems set to be the focal point, with a brand new OLED display, thinner body, and very possibly the launch of Apple’s M4 chip. New versions of the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil are also expected, both of which will likely be exclusive to the iPad Pro.

Evidence found on Apple’s Japanese site suggests the new Pencil may be dubbed the Apple Pencil Pro. Which got me thinking: adding the Pro name to the Magic Keyboard makes a lot of sense too, especially since only the new iPad Pro will support it.

Here’s why it may be just the right time for a Magic Keyboard Pro and Apple Pencil Pro.

Today in a subscriber-only post, analyst Ross Young reported that he and his team have heard rumblings about a new iPhone display size being introduced with 2025’s iPhone 17 lineup.

This new display size would take the spot of the current iPhone Plus model, continuing to offer a larger iPhone option at a more affordable price. However, in a surprising move, this reported new size will take the iPhone Plus in a direction that will likely be unexpected by many.

iOS 17.5 shows Apple following the New York Times playbook with games

iPhone with News+ Crossword, Quartiles, and New York Times games

Last week at the White House Correspondents Dinner, SNL’s Colin Jost joked about how The New York Times—the country’s most successful news publication—was only kept alive by Wordle and other puzzle games. The Times didn’t appreciate the remark.

Apple has clearly been paying attention to the Times’ success, though, as its latest strategy for boosting Apple News+ subscribers is a heaping dose of puzzle games. After launching crosswords last fall, another News+ game is on its way with iOS 17.5’s impending release: Quartiles.

Also noteworthy: both crosswords and Quartiles will be equipped with Game Center support in iOS 17.5. So much of Wordle’s initial popularity was tied to social sharing, and now in its own way, Apple is making it possible to play News+ games alongside your friends and in competition with others.

Will Apple’s games-focused strategy for News+ be successful? Here’s why it might.

The Apple website may have just given us a bit more insight into what to expect. In the Japanese Apple.com source code, the homepage banner for the event describes the logo’s header image as a creator holding a “Apple Pencil Pro”. The discovery was first spotted by ribu_ap712 on X.

A unique Apple marketing campaign for iPhone that you’ve probably never seen

As we await tomorrow’s iPad event, we’re looking back at a playful Apple marketing campaign that you’ve probably never seen. That’s because it ran in a single market at the time: Japan.

It turns out Apple relied on whimsical puppetry to convince Android users to switch to iPhone for a few years. If you haven’t experienced it, the ad campaign is unlike any other marketing campaign from Apple.
