Instagram launches rumored Focus feature, like Portrait Mode for iPhone 6s and later

Instagram has today launched its latest feature, ‘Focus’, the portrait mode feature that we reported on last month. While this is almost identical to what Apple offers with its stock iOS camera app, it will be more of a challenge to social media rival Snapchat. And the good news is that Instagram is bringing this portrait mode feature to the iPhone 6s and later.

Canary email client for iOS adds Apple Watch app, first third-party mail client to support LTE without iPhone

There are very few apps on Apple Watch that work over LTE, and the ones that do can be very limited in functionality. Snapchat launches exclusive face filters for iPhone X that take advantage of the TrueDepth camera

Snapchat has today launched three new face lens filters for iPhone X owners. The new lenses use the extra depth information provided by the infrared sensors in the iPhone X TrueDepth camera system to make incredibly accurate face maps, with the masks tightly hugging the contours of the face, in real time.

There’s an 80’s wrestler mask, a tiara and an ‘ornate, bejewelled’ face mask. As well as using TrueDepth to determine the 3D placement of the mask, these lenses also incorporate the ambient lighting and apply a Portrait-esque background blur.

Sleep++ 3 for Apple Watch adds automatic sleep tracking, morning sleep summary, more

Apple Watch cellular

Apple’s Health app supports sleep tracking data on the iPhone, but populating the category with useful data can be a challenge.

You can capture some data using the Bedtime feature in the Clock app, but dedicated sleep trackers can be more reliable and offer more robust data and Apple hasn’t offered its own Apple Watch sleep tracking yet despite buying Beddit almost a year ago.

Sleep++ is a third-party app that lets you turn your Apple Watch into a dedicated sleep tracker, and today’s 3.0 release makes that much easier with automatic sleep tracking and new goal features.
