The new display always shows the time and complications and is also the first from the company to include a built-in compass.

Apple launched international emergency services to every cellular model. Series 5 also brought back ceramic white, and new natural brush and space black titanium models.

Apple updates TestFlight to support testing of Apple Watch apps

Site default logo image

Update: Developers are still waiting for Apple to update the backend distribution infrastructure, before they can utilize the update to the TestFlight client app.

Apple has updated its TestFlight app to support Apple WatchKit apps embedded inside beta iOS apps. This has been a significant frustration for developers in the run up to the Apple Watch’s release, as it made testing apps for the new platform difficult.

Developers should now be able to deploy beta versions of their iOS apps without removing the Watch extensions.

Apple notifying early Apple Watch pre-order customers of order progress in email blast

Site default logo image

In an email blast sent out this evening, Apple has began notifying early Apple Watch pre-order customers of their order progress with a vague message that reads “we’re working on your order.” The email appears to only be sent to pre-order customers with first wave April 24th to May 8th delivery dates that have not yet been charged and have orders still processing, suggesting recipients should not expect launch day deliveries.

Earlier this week Apple began charging some pre-order customers as orders updated from processing to preparing for shipment. While it’s unclear until Friday, it seems to email blast is targeted toward customers that have launch day delivery ranges that haven’t seen order updates and likely won’t see Friday deliveries.

Apple Watch will be available to buy from some boutique fashion retail locations on Friday

Site default logo image

Update: Confusing the situation further, HDBlog has received news from Italian Apple PR that Milan will not have Apple Watch stock to buy.

Amidst all the craziness, it now transpires that Apple Watch will in fact be available to be buy at some retail locations on Friday. The New York Times reports that select boutique locations will have stock in the brick-and-mortar locations of Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch.

This includes Dover Street Market in Tokyo and London, Maxfield in Los Angeles, Collette in Paris, the Corner in Berlin and Corso Como in Milan.

Apple had previously announced these locations in a press release but it was unclear whether the plans had changed as Apple had since said that there would be no in-store stock until June at the earliest. although now it appears this only applies to Apple’s own retail stores.

Customers seeing these status changes have also reported seeing charges for the Apple Watch purchase. This is usually a sign that the pre-order is moving toward delivery, although for now the delivery dates appear to be unchanged making an early delivery uncertain.

Soft launch: Why the Apple Watch isn’t getting the ‘blockbuster’ debut it deserves

Site default logo image

It’s no secret that Apple’s launch plan for the Apple Watch hasn’t gone as well as the original iPhone and iPad launches.

Extremely limited supplies have led to long wait times for pre-orders. The lineup of choices is so complex that the company needed to give people weeks to try them on in stores before they were supposed to be available. And the confusing online-only purchase process advertised in Apple’s retail stores didn’t initially disclose that stores won’t have any units in stock on launch day. No part of the process has thrilled potential customers.

Yesterday, Apple’s SVP of Retail Angela Ahrendts sent an internal video memo to employees about the Apple Watch rollout in an attempt to help answer questions and assuage concerns about the many issues plaguing the launch, not the least of which is the lack of a “blockbuster launch” at retail outlets that customers and employees alike have come to expect from Apple. Some people took the video as an admission of guilt by Ahrendts. But although she may share responsibility for some of Apple’s missteps, she isn’t solely or even largely responsible for the issues.

Here’s where I believe things fell apart during this launch…

Jony Ive opens Condé Nast luxury conference, talks mass-made ‘craftsmanship’, partnership with Marc Newson

Site default logo image

Apple design head Jony Ive has given the opening interview at the first Condé Nast International Luxury Conference, in which he justified the concept of a mass-produced Apple Watch as worthy of the label ‘craftsmanship.’

It’s not so much about things being touched personally – there are many ways to craft something. It’s easy to assume that just because you make something in small volumes, not using many tools, that there is integrity and care – that is a false assumption.

Newson echoed this comment, reports Vogue, saying that machines are simply tools, much like a craftsman making a hand-made product might use a drill …
