iPhone 9to5Mac

Introduced in 2007 by Steve Jobs, iPhone is Apple’s flagship iOS device and easily its most popular product around the world. Software wise, it runs iOS and includes a large collection of mobile apps through the App Store.

Since its introduction, Apple has released at least one new phone every single year. In recent years, that has typically been in the fall. iPhones are sold through multiple retail channels including Apple Stores, cellular stores, Best Buy, and other major electronic retailers. iPhones can be bought with a single up front payment, financed through the iPhone Upgrade Program, or financed through a cellular carrier.

Apple’s smartphone has become much more than just a phone since its debut. The iPhone can act as your primary camera, music player, GPS device, email client, mobile banking system, messaging device, movie player, and much more.

As Apple expected to adopt Lightning for audio, Intel says USB-C is instead ‘the right connector’

According to local media reports, Iran is preparing to allow local retailers to import iPhones legally for the first time. Just last month, the country was threatening to ban the devices in what it was calling an anti-smuggling move. All that threat did in turn, however, was drive up the price of iPhones already in the country and actually increase smuggling.

Apple is losing India: iPhone shipments down 35% yoy to just 800K in Q2, Android over 97% of the market

The Apple CEO, Mr. Tim Cook calls on the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in New Delhi on May 21, 2016.

Strategy Analytics paints a grim picture for Apple on the Indian Subcontinent. The world’s third-largest smartphone market after China and the US is not taking to the iPhone in meaningful numbers. In fact, sales dropped significantly — 35 percent — in Q2 2016 to just 800,000 iPhones sold vs. 1.2 million in the same quarter a year ago.  Clearly, the launch of the cheapest iPhone ever, the iPhone SE, wasn’t a big winner in India.

Meanwhile, smartphone shipments grew 19 percent annually to reach 31 million units in India during the second quarter of 2016, with over 97 percent of those devices being Android.

Cyclist suffers third-degree burns after iPhone 6 catches fire following fall

Just yesterday we posted a video showing what can occasionally happen when a lithium ion battery receives impact damage, and today the Sydney Morning Herald has a report showing that the same thing can happen with no sledgehammers involved.

A Sydney bicycle rider […] was severely burnt when his Apple iPhone exploded after a minor fall […] Bondi management consultant Gareth Clear, 36, said his iPhone was in his back pocket and ignited after he had a fall from his bike while riding on Sunday afternoon.

“I just saw smoke coming out of my back pocket…and then all of a sudden I felt this surging pain,” he said, adding that he felt a “searing heat” as the phone burnt through his riding shorts in a matter of seconds.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said that it was investigating, but that the slimness of modern devices like the iPhone increased the risk of such incidents …

Here’s how the rumored ‘iPhone 7’ release date compares to every iPhone launch so far

Two dates surfaced over the weekend regarding when the so-called iPhone 7 could be introduced and available to purchase. Evan Blass, better known as @evleaks, tweeted Friday night that the next iPhone would be released during the week of September 12th, then added on Saturday that he indeed meant the actual retail release and that “it should happen on Friday, Sept. 16th.”

We noted in our coverage this morning that a two-week period typically occurs the time between the iPhone announcement and release date, which suggests a late August to early September Apple event assuming the September 16th date is accurate. So how does that date compare to past iPhone releases? Below we’ve compared every iPhone announcement, pre-order, and release date so far…

Review: Scosche’s MagicMount PowerBank adds a 4000mAh battery to iPhone only when you need it

Battery cases are bulky. The new MagicMount PowerBank from Scosche gives you all of the same benefits— a portable battery pack attached to your iPhone for extra battery life— but does so in a form factor that aims to be more convenient than a battery case. With the MagicMount, the battery magnetically attaches to your device using a very slim MagicPlate, so you can quickly remove it when no longer needed. And you can continue to use your device with a case of your choice or no case at all, so you don’t have to put up with that bulky battery case all day.
