Check out our top iPhone X stories:

Apple has announced its long awaited bezel-less, premium 10th anniversary smartphone, iPhone X at its September event. Priced at $999 for the 64GB model and $1,149 for 256GB, iPhone X is Apple’s most expensive iPhone yet.

The iPhone X has a brand-new design and is the first iPhone to feature an OLED display. The iPhone X has a 5.8-inch screen with minimal bezels, giving it a physical size close to the iPhone 8, with a screen size larger than the iPhone 8 Plus.

The iPhone X features glass on the front and back with a stainless steel body that seamlessly meet at the deviceā€™s curved edges.Ā Other flagship features include the devices new 3D sensors that bring Face ID as a replacement to Touch ID and wireless charging support.

The iPhone X along with the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus feature the A11 Bionic processor. The all new chip hasĀ four efficiency cores that are up to 70% faster than A10 Fusion and two performance cores that are up to 25% faster. The new models also have an Apple designed GPU that offers up to 30% better performance than the A10 chip.

iPhone X will be available for preorder on October 27 and will launch on November 3.

Gartner predicts iPhone X will boost smartphone sales return to growth in 2018

Gartner is forecasting that worldwide smartphone sales will return to growth in 2018, with the iPhone X a key factor in the U.S., China and Europe.

Mobile phone sales are expected to return to year-over-year growth in 2018, with shipments totaling 1.9 billion units. Smartphones will represent 86 percent of total mobile phone shipments in 2018, up 6 percent from 2017.

We expect Apple’s iPhone X to be the sales driver in North America, China and Western Europe, despite its high price. “Given the late November availability of the iPhone X, we expect the iPhone’s replacement cycle to flow more strongly into 2018,” said Roberta Cozza, research director at Gartner …

iPhone 7 is outselling the iPhone 8, claims analyst, citing carrier store surveys

Surveys of sales through carrier stores suggest that last year’s iPhone 7/Plus is outselling the new iPhone 8/Plus in the U.S. and UK. The claim is made byĀ KeyBanc Capital MarketsĀ analyst John Vinh in a client note.

iPhone 8 sales will be limited by those waiting instead for the iPhone X, but KeyBanc says that two other factors are at play …

AT&T sees almost 1M fewer upgrades during iPhone 8 launch quarter ahead of iPhone X release

AT&T recently revealed some of its Q3 data,Ā and the carrier says it saw 900,000 fewer smartphone upgrades compared to the year ago quarter.Ā A recentĀ Bloomberg piece suggests that the AT&T drop in year-over-year smartphone sales could be a sign that the iPhone 8 isn’t doing so hot.

If the iPhone 8 had been a hit out of the gate, then I would have expected AT&T’s upgrade number might at least have fallen less dramatically.

It does mention that AT&T’s Q3 only included about a week of iPhone 8 sales which isn’t enough to make a judgment, and that the data includes all smartphones, not just iPhones (although it’s amazing to think about one smartphone model being able to influence an entire quarter of carrier sales in one week).

While there are many factors at play, if iPhone 8 sales are lower than Apple anticipated, could Apple also have underestimated how many consumers are waiting to purchase the iPhone X?

Opinion: If the iPhone X and Face ID is just the beginning, what might their future hold?

Jony Ive said in an interview that the iPhone X was both the realization of a long-held ambition, and the beginning of a new chapter in the future development of Apple’s smartphones.

That much was predictable. Apple always needs to be working towards the next generation of devices, so of course the iPhone X is going to be just the first of a new line of iPhones.

But it was something else he said that I think could suggest a new direction for Apple’s user-interfaces …

Hands-on: Best fast charger options for iPhone 8 and iPhone X [Video]

Update: Separate tests by software engineerĀ Dan Loewenherz show that a 10w charger is the sweet-spot if you’re looking to balance charging time against cost and portability.Ā

The iPhone 8 and the upcoming iPhone X both support fast charging via Apple’s 29W USB-C adapter and USB-C to Lightning Cable. Apple says that by using fast charging, your iPhone can charge up to 50% in as little as 30 minutes.

Unfortunately, the official first party charging accessories ā€” its 29W USB-C Power Adapter ($49), and its 1-meter USB-C to Lightning Cable ($25) ā€” cost nearly $75 combined. That’s a lot of money to spend on a fast charging solution, especially for one that isn’t exceedingly faster than Apple’s own 12W adapter + a regular USB to Lightning cable.

The good news is that earlier this week Apple noted that third-party power adapters that meet the proper USB Power Delivery (USB-PD) spec would work as well. That means that acceptable third-party power adapters, likeĀ Anker’s 30W PowerPortĀ orĀ Aukey’s 29W Amp Duo USB Wall ChargerĀ can save you money. In fact, you can buy two of these adapters for less than the price of a single Apple 29W USB-C Power Adapter.

But how do these third-party chargers really stack up to Apple’s own solution? Is it worth going-third party to save $25 or so? The answer, after many hours of testing, is yes. Watch our hands-on video walkthrough for more details.
