iPhone 9to5Mac

Introduced in 2007 by Steve Jobs, iPhone is Apple’s flagship iOS device and easily its most popular product around the world. Software wise, it runs iOS and includes a large collection of mobile apps through the App Store.

Since its introduction, Apple has released at least one new phone every single year. In recent years, that has typically been in the fall. iPhones are sold through multiple retail channels including Apple Stores, cellular stores, Best Buy, and other major electronic retailers. iPhones can be bought with a single up front payment, financed through the iPhone Upgrade Program, or financed through a cellular carrier.

Apple’s smartphone has become much more than just a phone since its debut. The iPhone can act as your primary camera, music player, GPS device, email client, mobile banking system, messaging device, movie player, and much more.

Comment: I’d love to see Apple offer dual-SIM iPhones worldwide, but am not optimistic

There have been a number of suggestions recently that this year’s iPhones might support dual SIMs. The first, from Ming-Chi Kuo, reported that this would apply to the flagship model, the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone.

We found supporting evidence in iOS 12 beta 5, with references to ‘second SIM status,’ ‘second SIM tray status’ and ‘dual sim device.’

A new report on Friday was, however, less encouraging …

No end in sight to rising smartphone pricing, say analysts, following iPhone X precedent

Analysts say that a variety of factors are likely to see the price of flagship smartphones continue to rise, with the success of the iPhone X a key influence.

While there were many who doubted that even Apple could persuade significant numbers of consumers to pay a four-figure price for a phone, CNET echoes our own comment that the company has proven skeptics wrong …

Computer virus at A-series chipmaker TSMC could delay chip shipments for new iPhones

Analysts believe that the computer virus which shut down several factories at TSMC – the sole supplier of Apple’s A-series chips – could delay shipments of Apple’s new iPhones.

TSMC had previously said that it expected the production line shutdowns to impact Q3 revenues by 3%, suggesting a small but still significant impact on its capacity …

New videos show hands-on footage with 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch 2018 iPhone dummy models

As we get closer to the launch of this year’s iPhone models, we’re seeing an increasing number of images of dummy models.

While none are claiming to be the real thing, they are based on what are said to be leaked schematics from Apple’s supply-chain, and therefore an accurate representation of the appearance of the 2018 iPhone line-up. We saw the latest photos yesterday, and today two new videos have emerged …

AAPL earnings: the key commentary analysts are waiting to hear

Apple reports its fiscal Q3 (calendar Q2) earnings tomorrow, and we already know the key numbers analysts are expecting to hear in terms of iPhone sales and total revenue. The Wall Street consensus is that the company will report iPhone sales up 2.4% year-on-year, with earnings somewhere in the middle of Apple’s guidance.

But alongside those metrics, analysts will be paying close attention to lower-profile numbers, alongside Apple’s commentary, to see what clues it holds for the future …

Noted Apple analyst suggests 6.1-inch LCD iPhone may not be available until October

Morgan Stanley’s Katy Huberty, a noted Apple analyst, suggests that the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone may not go on sale until October. The delay is said to be down to production problems with the innovative backlighting system, which is believed to be key to the near-bezel-free design.

We currently see no delay in the ramp of Apple’s upcoming flagship 5.8″ or 6.5″ OLED iPhones. However suspected issues with LED backlight leakage have caused a 1 month delay in mass production of the 6.1″ LCD iPhone, although this is down from a 6-week delay baked into the original production forecast, according to suppliers …
