iPhone 9to5Mac

Introduced in 2007 by Steve Jobs, iPhone is Apple’s flagship iOS device and easily its most popular product around the world. Software wise, it runs iOS and includes a large collection of mobile apps through the App Store.

Since its introduction, Apple has released at least one new phone every single year. In recent years, that has typically been in the fall. iPhones are sold through multiple retail channels including Apple Stores, cellular stores, Best Buy, and other major electronic retailers. iPhones can be bought with a single up front payment, financed through the iPhone Upgrade Program, or financed through a cellular carrier.

Apple’s smartphone has become much more than just a phone since its debut. The iPhone can act as your primary camera, music player, GPS device, email client, mobile banking system, messaging device, movie player, and much more.

Concept imagines Jony Ive’s ‘single slab of glass’ goal for future iPhones

Site default logo image

It seems pretty clear by this stage that Apple is aiming for a near-bezel-free iPhone 8, but while we’ve heard multiple reports of a fingerprint reader embedded into the display, it seems likely that there will still be some top bezel for the camera, speaker and light sensor.

However, with Jony Ive reportedly eventually aiming for the iPhone to appear like a single sheet of glass, a new concept image shows how that ambitious goal might look …

Comment: Offering a 32GB iPhone 6 as an entry-level iPhone seems a risky approach

Site default logo image

Apple has an interesting tightrope to walk when it comes to entry-level products. While you and I may choose Apple products because we like the UI, the ecosystem and the designs, a large chunk of the company’s customer base automatically buys Apple simply because it is seen as the most premium brand. They may not know the specific benefits of Apple products, but they are – to quote an old ad slogan for a lager – reassuringly expensive. If they cost more, they must be better.

Indeed, in many markets, being seen with an iPhone, iPad or Mac bestows social status for that very reason, making them aspirational products.

Apple cannot afford to dent that premium image by offering low-end products, but at the same time it needs to bring in new customers to maintain growth. So far, its approach to doing this has seemed to me to be smart. But offering a 32GB iPhone 6 as an entry level iPhone in 2017? That I’m not so sure about …

Faster mobile data likely as 5GHz LTE found to play nicely with WiFi, FCC approves LTE-U

Site default logo image

More areas of the country are likely to see gigabit LTE, say carriers, as the FCC has approved the use of the 5GHz spectrum for mobile data.

The 5GHz band is currently used for WiFi, and there had been concerns that there would be conflicts between the two, but the FCC accepted that equipment manufacturers had demonstrated that LTE and WiFi could co-exist in the same spectrum …

Hands-on: Transcend’s JetDrive Go brings Lightning-enabled external storage to iOS devices [Video]

Site default logo image

If you own an iOS device with a lower tier of storage — 16, 32, or even 64 GB — then you may know how annoying it is to have to micromanage your device’s storage. Not only can managing storage be tedious, but it can be downright frustrating when you don’t have enough storage space to take a photo or video.

Unfortunately, once you’ve decided on a particular amount of storage, you’re stuck with that decision for the lifetime of the device. That’s where a product like Transcend’s JetDrive Go hopes to supplement your iPhone’s meager storage capacity, as it brings Lightning-enabled external flash storage to iOS devices.
