Apple Event..No Surprises Really...Apple Rocks
Another Apple Event has come and gone. No big surprises really. Apple has released some solid but overdue products.
- iPodtouch? Check (We're getting a 16Gb yesterday).
- Video iPodnanos? Check. (Wife gets that one.)
- The new shuffle colors? :/ No comment
- The new iPod Classic? Reality distortion at its most profound? I guess the "We couldn't sell enough of these things before the new ones were ready iPod" didn't really have the Zing! 160GB is nice I guess but that screen is so..tiny...
- Cheaper iPhones? Really? We bet the early adopters are happy Apple snagged that $200 tax for 2 months of early adoption. $100/month. Suckers!
- Mobile Store? More ways for Apple to get your money for DRM. That is a helluva "one more thing"
- Ring Tones!?!? Paying an extra buck to get a portion of a song YOU ALREADY OWN on your iPhone? HAHAHAHA. You are in a reality obliteration field if you are psyched about this. Seriously, we know this is the record companies' doing but how does Steve give this to us with a straight face?! Is this a benefit? Can we make ringtones out of songs we make in Garage Band? Way to go
corporate whoresApple!
As soon as you wipe all of that Apple event off of your face Apple fanboys, remember:
- no iChat yet
- Starbucks in bed with Apple. These big deal things always turn out messy - with Apple's partners hatin'.
- no VOIP on the touch now or in the future - no sound in.
- no open dev. platform for these things. got to hack hack hack
- 16Gb fills up really fast. Better hope there is plenty of Wifi around
- what is all of the extra space on that iPodtouch - where are the other apps?
A solid event to be sure. Kudos Apple for releasing some great products. Now get back to work!
Oh, btw. New MacBook Pros coming in January...more... coming...

I'm irritated.
$3.00 / day depreciation.
I want to sue - or something
The iPod Touch (trademarked as iPod touch) is a portable media player and Wi-Fi mobile platform designed and marketed by Apple Inc. The product was launched on September 5, 2007 at an event called The Beat Goes On.
Thanks,
Grace
The new Genius feature turns iPod nano into your own highly intelligent, personal DJ. It creates playlists by finding songs in your library that go great together.
thanks,
Neil
New MBP in January, eh?
Okay, i'll wait for it. I was planning to buy one in december, but think I can tough it out.
Congrats 9to5mac for earning bragging rights on the iPods!
Colours are butt-ugly, but I look at this way; the only tempting colour option is the Red, ergo, they will raise more money for Africa by forcing us to buy Red.
why no mail or maps, or any open development, a 400 iphone sees a better deal, even with early termination, at least if the ipod remains with only a fraction of the iphones potential and no option for future development, at least give people mail and maps
I've got one thing to say about that iphone touch...
Jobs, I think ill C U Next Tuesday >:(
whoops, I ment ipod touch, hard to tell the difference, what a cash in
I think there's a feature missing that we can find in the iPod 5.5G and it seems the Touch doesn't have: reading songs lyrics! I am the only one who likes this? (when english is not your main language it's a very useful feature).
I think iPhone doesn´t have that so Touch won't have it :(
Well I was hoping the iPod touch would have a greater capacity than my 1st gen iPod at 20GB... I'm not gonna lie, I'm slightly disappointed. Guess I can't complain too much; sounds like I'll just have to continue to be selective with what music I put on it. At this point, it wouldn't make much sense for Apple to put Hard Drives back into them, huh? I'll just have to wait ages for bigger and cheaper flash drives!
The 1st gen iPod did not have 20 Gigs. You are talking about the 2nd gen iPod.
Woha!
Congrats to 9to5mac for those correct guesses on all the iPods! You rock!
200$ cut on iPhone 8GB model after just 2 monts??
Man thats big, now i am unsure of even getting myself the iPod Touch...
I mean think about it, what are the chances that Apple will release a 32 GB version at same price of 16 GB one in about 2 months say in December???
Oh man.....
does the new ipod "classic" (they couldn't come up with anything better than "classic"?) have a shiny back like the previous ipods or is it more of a matte finish?
if they put a 160 GB in the touch too,
but first of all I'll have one (just bought it;) )
and thank you 9o5Mac.com for these
great rumors!!!! :)
It was a real pleasure reading you
and hope to read some more news pretty soon;)
Cheers yours StefoD
...i love how apple fanboys anxiously await new releases like its christmas then get all pissed off at "daddy" when they dont get the pipedreams they were hoping for.
"boohoo no hd touch..."
Just thought this was a forum where I could share my thoughts, guess not? I'm not pissed, just slightly disappointed...
i didnt necessarily mean here... everywhere on all the sites, basically what i was getting at was apple could make an ipod touch with a 200GB flash drive that is as thin as the new one and that cures cancer, and people would complain and ask "whats wrong with aids... why cant it cure that too?"
annoying
While the new IPOD TOUCH has some great features (Nice OS, Touch Screen Capabilities, WiFi, Web Browsing) is seems, much like the IPHONE, it has an unacceptable Achilles heal. Having only 16GB of storage for Music and Video is more than rather limiting. Remember that with a bigger screen, the size of the Video Files will also be bigger if the user wants to maintain the same quality.
Why would Apple release a PHONE/Communications device where it takes at least 5 steps to make a phone call, the phone quality isn’t that great, and the internet speed is slow?? For many a review, they said it was probably the best IPOD better and not much more than an average phone.
Now they release the IPOD touch with again does a bit of everything slightly well, but doesn’t excel at any one thing in particular.
At 399 for 16GB, I will probably wait until they at least release a 32GB model for the same price. Until then, the “Classic Ipod” with 80GB and a smaller, better-built design seems like the much better value for one’s money.
> Remember that with a bigger screen, the size of the Video Files will also be
> bigger
Beware, the magic "bigger-screen fairies" are going to make your files bigger when you play them on your iPod Touch. I tried playing a video file on my 46" flat screen and I don't even have room on my 160 gb...
The problem with apple building an ipod touch with a hard drive is that the spinning of the hard rive would interfere with the wifi, basically they would be unusable at the same time... The only reason they can get away with this in laptops is because the antennas are generally built around the screens far enough away from drives to not cause destructive interference. And the other reason for apple not putting bigger flash drives in the touch is because there is a massive shortage of flash memory that is only going to get worse towards the end of the year... So a 32GB iPod touch would cause pressure on flash demand and prices would rise which has knock on effects for the price of the iPod, think $600 for the 32Gb version and the person who said they wanted a 200Gb version think around the $2000 price point or even higher for such a mythical device in todays market.
...the era of the white iPod. 6 years ago (next month), you could only get one in white. Now, with 13 different models and an array of colors from which to chose, you can't get one in the color that made the iPod instantly recognizable from a distance. Steve could have at least had a moment of silence or something...
9to5mac beats everyone to the punch, congrats!! And suddenly all the people who said Apple would never release a short/wide iPod and even if they did they would never call it the Nano have disappeared back into their caves. Too funny. All those same people who said they would never buy one will now be lining up at the Apple store this weekend to pick one up. I'm sure they'll cover their tracks by saying that it looks so much better than the mockups. Keep up the great work 9to5!
OK, first off, what's up with the hate on the iPod Classic? It's "Classic", did you expect it to be new? If you want huge hard drive space, and music, this is your device. Period. I don't know about you, but I can navagate an iPod with a clickwheel blindfolded now.
iPod Touch... Cool, BUT, isn't the OS based on Leopard? And doesn't Leopard have resolution independance built in? So would it kill Apple to blow up those tiny buttons on the home screen to a larger size? You can just shrink them when new stuff gets added.
I mean seriously, all that extra real estate just gives fanboys reason to make up rumors of upcoming apps.
With all the announcements, what ever happened with getting iPhone really working with Exchange servers? Where's the ActiveSync? Where are the big corporate beta sites? Without Exchange sync, the iPhone is a boat anchor in corporations.
yeah, agreed. I use my exchange web access which is kinda tight but come on!
who is "hating" on the classic? *When* i get a new ipod, it will be the "classic". i just think Apple could have come up with a better name. they may as well have called the "ipod boring". a little panache goes a long way!
Wow guys, I just want to say thank you. The whole last month I've been checking your site like every minute. Now I ordered my Ipod Touch and I'm perfectly happy. Tomorrow is my birthday and without your rumors I would have gotten something else as a present.
I even ordered the small 8GB version, my library is only 3 gig, i seldom buy albums, just single songs. And for the additional 100 Euro I'm going to buy a 100 GB external HDD if I ever need one.
Thanks again!
I was prepared to purchase an Ipod touch, but alas, no HDD pretty much cements my decision not to buy. I like the idea of the larger HDD on the "classics", however, I want the larger screen. I guess I'll spend my money on another brand like Archos or Creative.
ur dumb
I was hugely impressed with the offering from apple today. However, some people seem to forget that apple is a business, not a charity.
32gb is not feasible at the moment. If that's a show-stopper, wait and buy when a bigger version comes out. I for one am buying the 16gb and will upgrade when/if I need to. We're only talking $400 here, not $4,000.
As for buying Archos or Creative, may I suggest Zune. Apparently they're cheaper today than they were yesterday.
wow! congratulations 9to5mac team ... absolutely spot on with the predictions and the leaks .. my hat's off to you all ..
as for the iPhone owners .. HA HAA!
(I still think its a dud and I'm still not buying one)
Well, Apple's getting no complaints from me.. the iPod classic is EXACTLY what I was hoping for :)
