Ming-Chi Kuo cuts first quarter iPhone sales estimates by 20%, says iPhone XR demand is low

iPhone XR

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has significantly reduced his forecast for iPhone unit shipments in the upcoming quarters. In a new report today, Kuo says that lower demand for iPhone XR means he sees iPhone sales falling year-over-year significantly.

Apple may shift more iPhone production to Pegatron to circumvent China iPhone sales ban

Apple may shift a larger portion of iPhone production to Pegatron, in order to comply with the iPhone sales ban injunction announced by a Chinese court on Monday. According to a report from Nikkei, iPhones assembled by Foxconn and Wistron are in infringement of Qualcomm patents … but Pegatron-produced iPhones are not (Qualcomm confirmed Pegatron is exempt).

Pegatron has a patent licensing agreement in place with Qualcomm that covers the two patents at the center of the ban. Apple believes that if its hand is forced, it can (at least partially) substitute Foxconn and Wistron assembly with Pegatron.

Qualcomm now tries to get this year’s iPhones banned in China through 2nd injunction

iPhone injunction

Qualcomm won a surprise victory against Apple in China earlier this week, when it obtained an injunction against both the import and sale of iPhones in the country.

That victory was, however, more theoretical than practical: the injunction applied to older models, and seemingly only on the basis of the version of iOS they ran when they first went on sale. Apple continued to sell all its iPhone models in China.

However, Qualcomm has today upped the ante …

iPhones may still face US import ban, says ITC, in latest Qualcomm development

iPhone import ban

The latest development in the Apple versus Qualcomm patent battle could still see a US iPhone import ban, despite a judge ruling against the possibility last year.

Qualcomm first sought the import ban just over a year ago, alleging that Apple infringed up to 16 of its patents, and that three of the infringements were sufficient to justify an import ban …

Egypt gives Apple 60 days to resolve ‘unfair restrictions’ from marked up iPhone prices

Just 24 hours ago, a Chinese judge granted an injunction against Apple. Now, the Egyptian government is playing hardball with the tech giant as well, stating that Apple has just two months to end “unfair restrictions” on regional product distributors.

While the 60 day deadline doesn’t include the threat of a permanent sales ban, Egyptian officials are angry over the exceedingly difficult and high income requirements needed to purchase a iPhone in the country.

Today’s statement comes from Egypt’s Official Gazette, which subsequently threatens to take legal action if changes aren’t made by the end of the two month deadline.
