Apple Stores: What makes them unique?

Beyond their award-winning architecture and landmark designs, Apple Stores are known for their focus on education and creativity. Over 250,000 free Today at Apple sessions were offered to the community each quarter prior to the pandemic. New stores are designed with a Video Wall and gathering area for Today at Apple known as the Forum. Older “classic” locations are being upgraded to accommodate the same experience.

Grand opening of Taiwan’s second Apple Store set for June 15th

Apple’s second retail store in Taiwan will celebrate its grand opening on June 15th at 10:00 A.M. local time. The long-awaited location in Taipei’s Xinyi District was first revealed when promotional signage was installed on the building. The store’s name — Apple Xinyi A13 — refers to its location in the district at the foot of a new Far Eastern Department Store.

Apple’s second store in Taiwan will open soon in the Xinyi District of Taipei

In Taipei, Apple is putting the finishing touches on its second official Taiwanese retail store. After opening its first location on the island in 2017 at Taipei 101, Apple is expanding outdoors with an open pavilion at street level in the Xinyi District of Taipei. Overnight, promotional graphics were installed on the building teasing its imminent arrival and name: Apple Xinyi A13.

Overnight, Apple logos were uncovered and the carefully restored building in the center of Mount Vernon Square was decorated with signage announcing the May 11th opening of both Apple’s global flagship site and the DC History Center.

Washington, D.C.’s historic Carnegie Library has a new lease on life. Following painstaking months of restoration and renovation, Apple and the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. will reopen the building’s doors on May 11th at 10:00 A.M. The restored library will house Apple’s second store in D.C. as well as the Kiplinger Research Library and historical society exhibit space.

New York City teen sues Apple for $1B after being falsely linked to a string of Apple store thefts

[Update: Apple has confirmed to The Verge that it does not use facial recognition technology in its stores, despite the claim made in this lawsuit.]

In a lawsuit filed in New York today, 18-year-old Ousmane Bah is suing Apple for a whopping $1 billion. Bah alleges that he was falsely arrested for a series of thefts from Apple stores due his name being falsely linked to the face of the actual thief.

A small request for the Apple Store app …

I mentioned recently dropping into an Apple Store to see whether they might be able to replace my broken Watch on the spot. It turned out they couldn’t, as they all need to go to the repair depot even when it’s obvious that a replacement will be needed.

That disappointment aside, it was a relatively painless experience …
