Apple Stores: What makes them unique?

Beyond their award-winning architecture and landmark designs, Apple Stores are known for their focus on education and creativity. Over 250,000 free Today at Apple sessions were offered to the community each quarter prior to the pandemic. New stores are designed with a Video Wall and gathering area for Today at Apple known as the Forum. Older “classic” locations are being upgraded to accommodate the same experience.

Apple’s planned flagship Melbourne store raises objections over loss of public space

When Apple announced plans for a new ‘global flagship’ store in Melbourne, Australia, it was welcomed by both government ministers and the square’s original architect.

Tourism minister John Eren said that the store would ‘breathe new life into Federation Square,’ while architect Donald Bates said that the development ‘respects and expands on the original vision for the site.’ It will also involve the demolition of an existing building many view as an eyesore.

But not everyone is happy about the plan …

New photos show exterior construction nearing completion at Apple’s new Vienna, Austria store

9to5Mac reader Philipp has shared some new photos with us of construction progress at Apple’s new retail location on Kärntner Straße in Vienna, Austria. Details about the store, Apple’s first location in Austria, originally came last August when it was revealed that Apple was finalizing plans to take over the space formerly occupied by fashion retailer Espirit.

Jony Ive told Angela Ahrendts ‘Don’t mess with the tables’ as she set about revamping Apple’s retail stores

When Angela Ahrendts was head-hunted by Apple to head up its retail operations, she said she was given one constraint on what she could change.

“In one of those very early conversations,” Ahrendts recalled, Ive said, ‘Don’t mess with the tables. They’re the same tables we used in our design studio and I love that it goes from the studio to the stores.’ He said, ‘They’re sacred.’”
